Vana graduated from the University of the West Indies St. Augustine Campus School of Veterinary Medicine with a DVM in 2018. She then was employed in mixed animal practice for 4 years as a clinician in Trinidad and Tobago before pursuing a Master’s degree in Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology at Texas A&M University in 2022. She graduated with an MSc from Texas A&M University’s School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in 2024 where the focus of her thesis was on porcine reproduction, and how virilizing doses of testosterone affects reproduction and insulin sensitivity in female pigs.

After completing this, she stayed at Texas A&M university for a PhD program, but pivoted to small animal gastroenterology at A&M’s GI (gastrointestinal) lab. She is currently a 2nd year PhD student whose research focuses on identifying novel biomarkers for detection of canine liver disease. She is passionate about animal welfare and continuing education for veterinarians in Trinidad and Tobago.
